Family background

Harrie Colin Grace was born 27 February 1879 at Sydney, the son of Henry Grace and Sophia Margaret Fairclough. He married Minnie Victoria Margoschis (1879-1952) at Hurstville, NSW, on 6 November 1905 and they had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Grace died 29 April 1958 at Killara, NSW, aged 79 years. He was cremated at Northern Suburbs Crematorium.

Occupation & interests

Grace worked as an estate manager and was elected to council in 1930 as a non Labor representative. A property owner who did not reside in Redfern municipality, Grace attracted criticism for only visiting Redfern once a fortnight to sit on council meetings.

Community activity

Grace was appointed an Honorary Ranger, in pursuance of the provisions of the Birds and Animals Protection Act in 1934.

Local government service

Grace was elected an alderman for Redfern Ward 1939 following a by-election caused by the death of Alderman T B D Holden.
