Family background

David Roberts was born c1855 at Sydney the son of Charles Roberts and Sarah Kelly. Roberts married Harriett Ogden at Sydney on 27 November 1880. They lived at 29 Cooper Street, Redfern.

Roberts died 2 July 1917 at Redfern and he was buried at Waverley Cemetery in the Anglican Section. He left a will and his estate and assets were assessed at £1,161.

Occupation & interests

David Roberts, a Labor endorsed alderman from Surry Hills Ward was a social conservative but with close links with the union movement as a stonemason. He was a Freemason and a member of the Royal Alfred Lodge.

Community activity

David Roberts was a justice of the peace (JP).

Local government service

David Roberts was an alderman for Redfern Council, representing Surry Hills Ward in 1911-14.
