Family background

Emanuel Yedwoph was born in Poland, the son of Isaac and Ella Yedwoph.

Yedwoph took out Australian citizenship in 1888. He married Martha Leah Robinson (1860-1934) at Sydney on 20 November 1889 and they had 1 son and 1 daughter. They lived at 133 Pitt Street, Redfern.

Yedwoph died at Randwick on 6 July 1926, and was buried at Rookwood Cemetery in the Jewish Section. He left a will and his estate and assets were assessed at £4,508.

Occupation & interests

Emanuel Yedwoph established a tailor’s shop in Pitt Street, Redfern and took an active part in community affairs, culminating in his election to council. Yedwoph was a Freemason and a member of Tranquillity Lodge.

Local government service

Emanuel Yedwoph was an alderman on Redfern Council from 1911 to 1925.
