Family background

Herbert Arthur Donnelly was born 7 July 1898 at Sydney, the son of William Albert Thomas Donnelly and Laura Lucy Ellis. He married Dorothy Charlotte Baker (1899-1983) on 2 May 1925 at Surry Hills and they had 1 son and 2 daughters. The family lived at 8 Telopea Street, Redfern.

Donnelly died on 2 December 1964 at Sydney, aged 66, and was buried in the Catholic Section of Rookwood Cemetery.

Occupation & interests

Herbert Donnelly was elected as an Official Labor candidate. In reality there was little difference of ideology with the disciples of Jack Lang.

Local government service

Herbert Donnelly was an alderman for the East Ward of Redfern Council in 1941-48.
