Family background
Jack Riverstone Faviell was born on 29 October 1891 at Riverstone, New South Wales. He was the son of Arthur Ernest (1857-1901) and Ellen Constance Faviell (1857-1933). In 1925 at Sydney he married Melanie A Pickburn. In 1934 he married Margot Rosenthal of Melbourne. He died on 22 July 1960 and was buried at St Matthew’s Church of England, Windsor.
Occupation & interests
Jack Faviell was educated at Chigwell Public School and Sydney Grammar School. In 1915, he became a partner in Norton and Faviell, chartered accountants. He qualified as a pilot in 1916 and served overseas with the Australian Flying Corps from 1917 to 1919, reaching the rank of Squadron Leader. On his return he became Chairman of Directors of E & R Mosely Pty Ltd.
Local government service
Jack Faviell was elected Alderman for Fitzroy Ward, 6 December 1937 to 5 December 1941. He was a member of the Finance Committee, 1938-41, the Electricity Committee, 1938-39 and the National Emergency Services Special Committee, 1940-41. He served on the City Planning and Improvements Committee, 1938-41 and was its Vice-Chairman in 1940-41.
