Family background

William Allan was born 5 October 1905 at Randwick, NSW, the son of Andrew Henderson Allan and his wife Catherine. He married May Hawes (1907-94) on 30 June 1934 at Randwick, NSW, and they had two sons. William Allan died in hospital on 30 August 1972, aged 66 years; he was cremated at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium. Allan lived at 25 Suttor Street, Alexandria.

Occupation & interests

William Allan, as a Labor alderman, was anti-communist, socially conservative with close links with the trade union movement.

Local government service

William Allan was an alderman on Alexandria Council 1938-48 representing the West Ward.
