Family background

William Samuel Setchell was born on 2 February 1860 at Cooma, NSW, the son of William Setchell and Mary Ann Downes. He married Mary Philpott on 29 July 1885 at Newtown, NSW, and they had three sons and three daughters. William Samuel Setchell died at Burwood, NSW on 14 April 1936, aged 76 years; he was buried Rookwood Cemetery in the Wesleyan section. He left no Will. Setchell lived at 71 Garden Street, Alexandria.

Occupation & interests

Setchell occupied the position of inspector of nuisances, foreman of works and bailiff for Alexandria Council.

Local government service

Setchell was an alderman on Alexandria Council 1914 (resigned in September 1914) representing the East Ward. His father, also named William, was also an alderman on the council, as was his brother George and son Edward.
